Throughout the 1970s Rolex supplied tool watches to the Ministry of Defense ( MoD ) for use by the British Special Forces, namely the “MilSub”; it is now one of the rarest collectors’ watches.

Before the next Special Forces Tool Watch by Rolex comes to be, customizations of the TYPE S6 "MOD DESERT EDITION", endow our re-imagination of the classic MoD model; creating a contemporary, robust tactic field watch model that evokes modern intellect. Desert operations have long recognized the potential for army involvement in conflicts in these regions. To create a modern tactic tool watch version for special forces, we believe a Desert Edition should be adopted.

The modern camouflage system adopted by the US Army in 2010, “MultiCam” is a proven multi-environment concealment solution. It effectively limits the visual and near-IR signature of a person operating across a very wide range of physical environments and seasons.

The color inspiration behind the most updated “ARID” version of “MultiCam”, is specially tailored for desert environments that predominantly consist of open sand and rock. We have picked the warm tan shade of “Desert Sand”.

Our in-house design team spent many hours experimenting, assembling pigments and associating them with different materials. They searched for the perfect color and all its nuances. A meticulous work incarnated by The Shades of Desert Sand Challenge. The desired, perfect color and pigments for TYPE S6 "MOD DESERT EDITION".

“CERAKOTE” COATING

UP TO MILITARY STANDARDS

Desert operations demand adaptation to the environment and to the limitations imposed by terrain and climate. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail. This climate calls for foolproof equipment.

TYPE S6 "MOD DESERT EDITION" is one of the few military watches in the market that boasts applied “Cerakote”. A strong, sturdy, thin-film protective ceramic coating. This leading coating is used in the automotive, aerospace, consumer, and defense industries.

The pigment series we used on TYPE S6, is typically used for firearm applications, it has been designed to withstand extreme temperatures (1,200°F/649°C). This makes the coating ideal for maintaining excellent adhesion even after repeated thermal cycling. It perfectly provides superior protection against corrosive environments and thermal shock in arid regions for the next special forces tool watch.

To achieve the best results, we guarantee the coating on each TYPE S6 is applied by a Certified Cerakote Applicator. As a professional atelier specialising in watch customization, our coating application is of the highest quality because of our commitment to excellence.

The MOD Desert Edition is for those who appreciate vintage style and love a military feel to their watch, right down to the G10 NATO nylon strap with a black PVD-coated pin buckle. Desert operations demand environmental adaption, so the TYPE S6 is the first timepiece in the series that uses a Cerakote coating; a strong and sturdy protective ceramic coating that gives an extra layer of protection whilst keeping the watch looking modern and classy. The Cerakote coating offers 330 times the corrosion protection of PVD and outlasted PVD in an abrasion test by 4500 cycles, so you can be assured of the resilience of this edition.
