“DISCOVERY OUR INSPIRATION”
Red is one of the strongest colors, it’s energy, it has a power with the eye. The highlight of crimson red on anthracite grey creates ambiences that encourage us to focus, dwell time on the present, a moment, this second. Just like the red safelight that illuminates the darkroom, stabilizes the image print process.

FIT FOR DUTY

HISTORY OF THE “MILSUB”
What is now one of the rarest of collectors’ watches, was once the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) standard-issue equipment. The MoD knocked on Rolex’s door in the 1970s, looking for a timepiece sturdy enough to survive underwater and in the field.
Over the course of the decade, around 1,200 pieces were manufactured for the British Royal Navy. Following decommissioning, these military field watches often were either destroyed by the MoD, or purchased by civilians or watch dealers, with most being transformed by removing the military features and changing the watch to a more “civilian” timepiece.

DETAILS TELL ALL
THE 70s MILSUB 5517 SIGNATURE
We’ve made every effort to capture all the recognizable characteristics of the much sought-after ‘MilSub’. Among all the configurations of this MoD Project (MilSub 5513, 5514 & 5517), we especially admire the 5517. This unique version delivers only with sword hands and a full 60-minute bezel. These characteristics are not only prevalent in the MoD timepiece but appear in all present Rolex styles.
The sword symbolizes power, protection, authority, strength, and courage; metaphysically, it represents the penetrating power of intellect. Together with the full 60-minute bezel for complete precision, we believe these features are “must-have” remastered elements. The “MilSub” was an iconic military tool watch model that is a salute towards heroism, strength and Army elites.

WHEN “OLD”
IS A GOOD THING

PATINA ON VINTAGE DIALS
Using a modern tool watch for the base of this customization makes the TYPE S5 highly wearable, robust and accurate. Subtle nods to the vintage watch ageing can be seen in the patina giving that 1970s watch charm.
Patina is the discoloration of tritium or radium-based luminescent material on hands and markers, a signature of most vintage watches. It is no wonder patina is so sought after amongst watch collectors.
Our in-house design team spent many days working, researching, discussing, trying and failing to pinpoint the desired colour for customizing the shade of patina. This special “Nostalgic Beige” is the cornerstone of this remastered project, we applied it to the matte dial as well as the black anodized aluminium bezel.
